SEMINAR ON POST CONFLICT RECONSTRUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT

DATE: Nov 23-24. 2017

VENUE: Hilton Hotel, London

OVERVIEW:

The challenge of violent conflicts including the Boko Haram attacks and its impact on socio-economic development in Nigeria has remained a daunting task.

Sustaining peace is a cheaper alternative, as the cost of conflict has been extraordinary.

Implementing Post conflict reconstruction and development policies is the key to a lasting peace and to a more prosperous future. Peace accords are critical. They end conflict but they don?t always bring lasting peace. It takes livelihoods, jobs, hope and trust in the future to bring people closer together and make it worthwhile to invest in peace.

We all know that there won?t be development without peace, nor can there be peace without development.

OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the workshop the participants should be able to develop comprehensive policies and strategies that elaborate measures that seek to consolidate peace and prevent relapse to violence, promote sustainable development and pave the way for growth and regeneration in states emerging from the conflict.

Implementing a PCRD policy by the Executive, the Legislature and the Security services will improve timeliness, effectiveness and coordination of activities in post conflict states and lay the foundation for social justice and sustainable peace, in line with Africa?s and Global vision of renewal and growth.

This is tool to:

o       consolidate peace and prevent relapse of violence

o       help address the root causes of conflict

o       encourage and fast-track planning and implementation of reconstruction activities

o       enhance complementarities and coordination between and among diverse actors engaged in PCRD processes.
